Insect morphology, as an important branch of entomology, focuses on the study of insect structure and function, including comparative morphology, functional morphology, and developmental morphology. This paper reviews the development of insect morphological research, highlighting the current research hotspots and technological advances, such as scanning electron microscopy, micro-computer tomography (micro-CT), and geometric morphometric analysis. The paper also discusses how those technology has driven the development of fields such as insect taxonomy, evolutionary biology, and ecology, and foresees the possible future research directions, including interdisciplinary integration and the application of artificial intelligence technology. The paper aims to elucidate the important role of insect morphology in the field of entomology and provide suggestions for future research. |
