Zeugodacus tau (Walker) is an important quarantine pest in the world, which seriously damage a variety of fruits and cucurbits. In order to clarify the effect of host plants on the cold tolerance of Z.tau, the supercooling point and the freezing point of body fluids of 5 developmental stages of Z.tau fed on Momordica charantia L., Cucumis sativus L., Luffa aegyptiaca Miller and Mangifera indica L. were measured. The results showed that, in the 5 developmental stages of each group of host plants, the 〖HJ50x〗supercooling point and the freezing point of 5-day-old pupae of Z.tau were the lowest, which were significantly lower than those of the 1-day-old pupae, larvae and adults. While significant differences were found among the same developmental stage of Z.tau reared in different hosts plants, ranging from -23.97 to -8.06℃and -14.02 to -0.59℃, respectively. 5-day-old pupae of Z.tau fed on Momordica charantia showed the lowest the supercooling point (-23.97℃) and the freezing point (-14.02℃), but there was no significant difference with C. sativus. The cooling point of 4 stages of Z.tau (mature larvae, 1-day-old pupae, 1-day-old female adults and 5-day-old female adults)fed on C. sativus showed the lowest temperature among the 4 hosts plants. The supercooling point of the 1-day-old female adults of the M.indica population was the highest, with an average value of -7.47℃, and the freezing point of the body fluid of the mature larvae of the bitter gourd population was the highest, with an average value of -0.59℃. This study is enhanced the understanding of the host on the cold tolerance of Z.tau, which is of great significance for the research on the dynamics of Z.tau overwintering population, forecasting and integrated pest control. |
