Acalolepta speciosa is a newly observed stem-borer on Camellia trees in Guangdong Province of China. In order to find out the host selection behavior of feeding and oviposition of adult on different hosts, the feeding area and oviposition number of the pest on hosts were observed and recorded in the field and the laboratory. Field research found that there weren't damaged symptoms in C. semiserrata; the adult didn't lay egg on the leaves, laid eggs under the trunk epidermis of C. gauchowensis and C. oleifera, the diameter of damaged trunk was more than 1.0 cm, the oviposition was less than 72.0 cm; there was no correlation between the number of eggs laid and the host species and trunk diameter. In the laboratory, the adult neither feed nor lay eggs on Schima superba, Quercus palustris, Pinus massoniana and Vitis vinifera, feed on barks and leaves of Camellia tree, laid eggs under the barks of C. semiserrata, C. gauchowensis and C. oleifera, but not C. japonica, there was no significant difference in feeding and oviposition selectivity among different hosts. |
