Thrips are important insect pests in mango orchards. In order to investigate the effect of short-term low temperature on the development and reproduction of thrips, the dominant species Scirtothrips dorsalis Hood was selected to expose to 8℃ and 12℃ (RH 75%±10%, 12 L∶12 D) for 6 h, 12 h and 24 h, respectively. The survival and developmental duration of S. dorsalis larvaes, the lifespan and fecundity of S.dorsalis adults were observed. The results showed that short-term low temperature significantly affected the developmental duration of S. dorsalis nymphs and different instar S.dorsalis had different responses. The nynphs exposed to short-term low temperatures significantly reduced the lifespans their adults. The short-term low temperatures also influenced the generation survival. The survival rates significantly decreased with the increase of the exposure time of low temperature. The second instar nymph exposed to 8℃ for 24 h resulted in the lowest cumulative survival rate in the whole nymph stage, which was 6.86%. The exposure of short-term temperature was adverse to the lifespan and fecundity of S.dorsalis adults. The results indicated that the longer the exposure of short-term low temperature, the greater the influence. |
