To explore the selective behavior and utilization of Solenopsis invicta workers to chromatic cues, the effect of different color cards on the tendency behavior and different color baits on the foraging behavior of worker ants were examined to provide an important basis for the effective monitoring and control of S. invicta. The results showed that color significantly affected the tendency behavior of S. invicta workers. The black card had the highest attraction rate to the workers, which was up to 32%. The yellow card showed the lowest attraction rate, which was 7%. The results also indicated that different color baits obviously influenced the foraging behavior of workers. Within 5 min, more worker ants foraged on the yellow, green and blue baits, which was significantly more than that on purple and black baits. The weight of red, orange, yellow, green and blue baits transported by the worker ants was obviously more than that of purple and black baits. In conclusion, S. invicta workers can discriminate and utilize the chromatic cues. In the preparation of monitoring and control baits, the baits can be dyed with the color had long reflective wavelength such as red, orange, yellow, green and blue, so that the workers can quickly locate the baits and transport more baits to their nests.
