Multiple mating is an important mating behavior in insect species. A large number of research efforts across most female insect taxa have been carried out to explain the adaptive significance of multiple mating. There are two typical mating strategies (monandrous or polyandrous) in moth species. However, the benefits and costs of multiple mating to female of these species are less clear. In this comparative study of moths we performed a Meta-analysis based on 24 studies of 25 moth species from 8 families to test whether there is an association between multiple mating and fitness parameters in two species’mating strategies. The results showed that females gain directly benefits from multiple mating in terms of increased fecundity and fertility, but endure cost of decreased longevity for all moth species. There are different influences of multiple mating on two mating strategies. A positive association between female mating frequency and increased fecundity and fertility in polyandrous moth species, but there are no significant effect of multiple mating in terms of three fitness parameters on monandrous moth species.
