红火蚁Solenopsis invicta是重要的卫生和农林害虫。饵剂法是防治红火蚁的主要方法。红火蚁饵剂一般由杀虫剂、载体和油脂3部分组成。此前的研究表明杀虫剂的种类和浓度及载体的尺寸和颜色对红火蚁的饵料搬运行为具有显著影响,然而较少有研究关注油脂及其添加剂对红火蚁觅食的影响。本研究在野外比较了不同油脂抗氧化剂(丁基羟基茴香醚、二丁基羟基甲苯、叔丁基对苯二酚和没食子酸丙酯)和油脂(大豆油、玉米油、椰子油、棕榈油、花生油、黄油和猪油)对饵料搬运的影响。结果表明添加抗氧化剂对饵料搬运无显著影响。此外,红火蚁搬运的玉米油饵料最多(0.73 ± 0.16 g),显著高于椰子油饵料的搬运量(0.08 ± 0.03 g)。在实验室进一步观察红火蚁对玉米油和椰子油饵料的搬运行为,红火蚁对两者的搜寻时间无显著差异,但玉米油饵料的首次搬运时间更早,饵料搬运量更高,搬运速度也更快。本研究为优化红火蚁饵剂提供了依据。 |

The red imported fire ant, Solenopsis invicta, is a significant health, agricultural and forest pest. Baiting is one of the main methods to control S. invicta. The fire ant bait is usually composed of three compounds, which are active ingredient (pesticide), carrier and oil. Previous studies showed that the type and concentration of pesticides, as well as size and color of carrier, significantly affected bait transport by S. invicta. However, few studies focused on the potential impact of kinds of oil on the foraging behavior of S. invicta. In this study, we conducted field studies to evaluate the effect of different liposoluble antioxidants (butylated hydroxyanisole, butylated hydroxytoluene, tert-butylhydroquinone, or propyl gallate) and oil (soybean oil, corn oil, coconut oil, palm oil, peanut oil, butter, or lard) on bait transport under field conditions. Results showed that adding antioxidants did not significantly affect bait transport. In addition, S. invicta transported significantly more corn-oil bait (0.73 ± 0.16 g) than that of coconut-oil bait (0.08 ± 0.03 g). We then conducted a laboratory experiment to compare the searching and transport behavior of S. invicta in response to bait containing corn or coconut oil. There was no significant difference in search duration between the two kinds of oils. However, the first particle of corn-oil bait was transported earlier than that of coconut-oil bait. Also, the transport amount was larger and the transport speed was higher. Our study provides insight for improving S. invicta bait. |
